Setsuko Migishi was a Japanese female oil painter.
1905-1999
In 1921 (Taisho 10), she moved to Tokyo and studied under Saburosuke Okada, attending the Hongo Western Painting Institute.
In 1922 (Taisho 11), she enrolled in the Women's Art School.
In 1925 (Taisho 14), she won an award at the Spring Salon for her work "Portrait" and others.
After the war, in 1946 (Showa 21), she co-founded the Women Painters Association with Yoneko Saeki and others.
In 1968 (Showa 43), she settled in Cagnes-sur-Mer in southern France.
In 1969 (Showa 44), she also founded the women's comprehensive exhibition "Tide," and from this time on, she began to work as a landscape painter.
As a leading figure among women painters, she contributed to the establishment of women's status in the art world.
Her work is characterized by its deep spirituality and heavy touch, and she painted flowers throughout her life.
