Eugene Studio: New Sea

Yuto Samukawa, a rising contemporary artist born in the Heisei era, is holding his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. This book is the official exhibition catalog for this large-scale solo exhibition, which reveals his diverse activities, from flat works to large-scale installations, video works, and sculptures. It explores the perspectives, ideas, and philosophies that run through his work, from his representative "White Painting" series (2017-) and "Wilderness of Good and Evil" (2017) to his latest works, such as the large-scale new installation "Sea Garden."

This comprehensive artist book, which reflects on these works that evoke wisdom for looking at reality and sailing toward the future, delves further into the multifaceted world of his work through a dialogue with biologist Shinichi Fukuoka and essays by American critic David Geer, who contributes to "October" and "Frieze" magazines, among others, transcending genres.
